CYDWOQ shoes had from the outset the goal to faithfully imitate nature as far as possible by way of going “healthy barefoot". The founder of the brand, which has its headquarters in the US town of Burbank, has always been a lover of long walking routes. In his opinion, however, virtually all shoes on the market were too uncomfortable to embark on long journeys. Their character focused on design and style but not on comfort. With this in mind, the visionary, Rafi Balouzian, decided in the spring of 1996 to bring his own factory for quality shoes to life. The affinity for good shoes didn’t come to the American by accident. Indeed, his Armenian grandfather had made a name for himself in the early 20th century by selling exquisite handicrafts in the Middle East. His father also devoted his professional life to shoe making, so that as a child Rafi had already learned the intricacies of this high craftsmanship.

According to the motto "The best way to walk is barefoot" Balouzian began to closely observe the natural movement of the foot and its shape. He tried out various materials and fits, to create ergonomic shoes that give one the feeling of going barefoot.
