About Trippen Shoes - A Debut in Berlin / Germany with an Idea

Trippen shoes are niche products that are seen as works of highly impressive craftsmanship. The shoes’ appearance contain pieces of extraordinary detail. Other brands only have shoelaces for this part of their shoes, and don’t have nearly this much detail. This level of detail was exactly what the two company founders, Angela Spieth and Micheal Oehler, wanted for their shoes. From the very beginning, their goal was to create new and unique shoes. A durable and cleanly manufactured shoe needed to be the end result. Both company founders came up with this plan by visiting a shoe performance factory in 1992. They worked meticulously, creating their vision for the next few months and years, inspired by old wooden soles from the 70s. Their efforts were finally rewarded when the first 60 models were presented. After that, they immediately received orders for shows from Wolfgang Joop and Claudia Skoda.

Trippen and Berlin – Real Love Since 1992

Since the founding of Trippen, the shoe manufacturer has always been closely linked to the city of Berlin. That is why it's not surprising that the first collection of Trippen was presented in the Berlin arcade. Berlin is still the centre of Trippen today. Trippen has moved a lot of times over the years, but it has always been loyal to the capital of Germany. The Trippen outlet and the administrative building are still located in Berlin, although production is now located in the city of Zehdenick. In 2014, Trippen moved into new offices, studios, and showroom at the Treptower Park in Berlin. Trippen also runs its flagship store at the "Hackeschen Hoefe" beside the Trippen Outlet. Trippen leather is handmade in Tuscany

Tanneries used to spend two or three years to produce long-lasting leather. Nowadays, the production period can be drastically decreased through the use of chemistry. Amazingly, it is now possible to produce long-lasting leather in just a few days. This great leather can be created much quicker, but the hard work, steady wetness, and obnoxious smells during the leather production still remain. In the Tuscan tanneries where Trippen leather originates, the workers process rawhides, a by-product of meat production, into a durable and extremely useful material.

Oils and Waxes – Used to Create Flexibility and Suppleness

In the first step of leather production, the workers depilate (remove hair and wool from) the rawhides with water and salt. In German, this process is called "Äschern". After the depilation, the hides are prepared for the actual tanning. The workers hang out each leather individually to dry. Oils and waxes are used to treat the leather. Large machines equipped with heavy rollers press the material to make it flexible and long-lasting.
